Top 10 Celebrities Contestants in Lok Sabha 2014



As the biggest democracy (India) in the world begins voting, celebrities and the star power are doing their bit to make the contest extremely interesting. From the film world to the sports field to magicians, there are several celebs in the fray, more than any other time in history of the country. Although they are not restricted to a few political parties, most of them are from Indian National Congress, Bhartiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress. We take a look at some of such celebrities, many of whom are contesting for the first time while others are veterans.

11. Bhaichung Bhutia (Trinamool Congress)

Another celeb from the sports fraternity who is trying his luck in Elections 2014 is ace footballer Bhaichung Bhutia who is contesting from Darjeeling Constituency of West Bengal from TMC ticket. The footballer-turned-politician is on a stronger wicket because Gorkha leader Subash Ghising, who has notable following in the region, has announced that his Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) will support Bhutia in Darjeeling.

10. Mohammad Kaif (Indian National Congress)

Ex cricketer Mohhamad Kaif is contesting elections from Allahabad(Phulpur) constituency from Congress ticket. Kaif made his International cricketing debut against South Africa in 2000 and one of the few players from East Uttar Pradesh who made it to the international arena. Congress is trying to cash in on this. However, soon after Congress announced his candidature from the Allahabad (Phulpur) constituency, Kaif had to face dissent from older Congressmen in the district.

9. Bappi Lahiri (Bhartiya Janata Party)

The Indian Film Industry veteran and ace music personality is seeking mandate from the voters in Sreerampore in West Bengal. He has a number of other musicians and film stars to support him. He has been trying lure the voters with his music ever since he joined BJP in January this year. Lahiri has deep roots in the Indian film industry and had pioneered the Disco beats in India. He is also known as the ‘Disco King’ for the kind of compositions he has given.

8. Moon Moon Sen (Trinamool Congress)

Famous actress Suchitra Sen’s daughter Moon Moon Sen is adding a touch of glamour to the Lok Sabha elections, 2014. She is contesting from Bankura in West Bengal from TMC ticket. Although it is her first election, she is confident her fame in the film industry will help her win. She has acted in Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu films. She has also done a number of television serials.

7. Javed Jaffery (Aam Aadmi Party)

This celeb is again from battleground U.P. Javed Jaffrey is contesting from Lucknow constituency from AAP ticket. Javed has done a number of Hindi and international films after, making his debut in Meri Jung in 1985. He has also done successful realty shows on television. Javed is especially known for his sense of humour and timing. He is taking on BJP’s President Raj Nath Singh in the constituency, apart from Rita Joshi of Congress.

6. Paresh Rawal (Bhartiya Janata Party)

This versatile and prolific actor is trying his hand at politics contesting from Ahmedabad (East) constituency from BJP ticket.  As soon as he was nominated by the BJP for the Ahmedabad (East) seat, Rawal brought up the issue of Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi’s foreign origins and said he is confident of victory as he is an Indian. He does not plan to quit film career and if elected, will shuttle between Delhi and Mumbai, Rawal says.

5. Kirron Kher (Bhartiya Janata Party)

Actress Kirron Kher is also adding glamour to politics. She is contesting from Chandigarh. She is contesting from BJP ticket. She is acted in a number of Punjabi and Hindi films. She has also participated in realty shows on television. She is bringing more star power to the electorate by way of her husband Anupam Kher and even actor Anil Kapoor campaigning for her in the constituency.

4. Gul Panag ( Aam Aadmi Party)

Gul Panag, former Miss India, is contesting from Chandigarh from AAP ticket. She has done a number of Hindi films and has been a social activist. She is also known to be a fitness enthusiast. She hails from Army background and is rather firmly placed than her opponents in Chandigarh, a place which has a number of people from Army background. Her main opponents are Kirron Kher from BJP and Pawan Bansal from INC.

3. Nagma ( Indian National Congress)

Nagma is trying her luck from Meerut constituency from a Congress ticket. She has been a popular actress who worked in the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu industry. She made her Hindi film debut with Baaghi. Having been born to a Hindu mother and a Muslim father, she claims to have secular credentials. Although she has been associated with politics for 10 years, it is the first time that the actress is contesting elections.


2. Raj Babbar (Indian National Congress)

Raj Babbar is seeking the mandate of the electorate for a fifth term as a Member of Parliament. He is contesting from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, the most populous and the most politically significant state in the country. His first three terms as MP was with the Samajwadi Party. He is currently serving his fourth term as a MP from Agra representing Congress. He was born in Tundla in Uttar Pradesh and has done a number of Hindi and Punjabi films. His noted Hindi films are Nikaah, Insaaf Ka Tarazu and Maati Maange Khoon. His principal opponents in this election are Shazia Ilmi of the Aam Aadmi Party and V K Singh of the Bhartiya Janata Party, ex-Army chief.

1. Hema Malini

Dream Girl” Hema Malini, contested on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, won eaily. She won by 3.5 lakh vote margin. Hema and Dharmendra (Bollywood Actor, Husband of hemaji) have been involved in politics as members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She was elected to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament of India. She was nominated as Rajay Sabha MP (2003–2009) by the then President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, from Maharashtra.
